The two regions have been hit by the 2016 November Teacher/Lawyer protest.
Children who were registered absent in classrooms since then are still to fully resume for the new acedemic year for different reasons.
The fear of repraisals on the part of school authorities who attempt to favour school resumption and children, most of whom have been warn no to dare, has kept many home.
School Authorities who do not heed to the order to keep their institutions locked run the risk of fire disaster.
Inspite of the intimidation, others are odacious enough to launch the school year on the watch of heavy law enforcement officers.
The principal of Government Bilingual High School ( GBHS) Downtown for example says the week started with 150 students, by Friday it had a record of 700 students.
GBHS Bamendakwe now has over 500 students up from 200 students on Monday 4th September; resumption date.
Other schools in the North West region now witness a gradual growth in its population as the days go by.
In the South West Region there was more enthausiasm owing to the visit of the minister of Secondary Education.
Minister Jean Ernest Ngalle Bibehe visited PCSS Buea,St Joseph’s College Sasse Bilingual Grammar School Molyko and other institutions in the region.
He visited 13 schools to accompany the youth to an effective start of the acedemic year, and saluted the students resolve to hit the bench inspite of the odds.
The principal of Baptist Comprehensive College Buea says they had 90 students and 16 teachers on campus on Monday 4th September .
In Bishop Rogan Minor Seminary Great Soppo, 71 students out of 400 expected had registered by Friday.
Baptist High School had a record of 65 students while PCSS Buea has 205 students on campus.
School Authorities have been assuring parents of the safety of their children.
Through text messages and other means, parents are more confident about the safety of their children some of whom are allowed in class without
uniforms.
Although parents are globally hesitant, they believe as the acedemic year gets older, more students and pupils will overcome fear and join others in school.
